House of Vans – Calgary
Vans is pleased to introduce their House of Vans pop up in Calgary this April 13th to 15th as a cultural hub to inspire the local community through the celebration of art, music, action sports and street culture.
The densely packed, three days of programming will take place in the Big Four building at Calgary’s iconic Stampede Park and will comprise of live concert series, art shows, creative workshops, a community market showcasing over 30 local vendors and a skatepark built and designed in homage to the city’s rich skateboard history.
Musical highlights of the pop-up event include headlining performances by Brooklyn rock band, DIIV, and DIY punk band from Philadelphia, Sheer Mag, plus an opening night dubbed Sessions, where five local Calgary bands take the stage. Creative activations feature an art exhibition with eight local artists exploring comic imagery in their practices curated by Five Art and Merchandise, a live mural painting by acclaimed artist and illustrator Jay Howell, and a photography workshop with Jeff Thorburn.
New this year, House of Vans is proud to introduce Get on Board: a celebration of women’s skateboarding. The initiative invites women of all ages to participate in on-site skate clinics, inspiring a new wave of women’s skateboarding progression.
“By combining youth culture with arts, music and community, House of Vans is an outstanding event to host in Calgary,” says Jeff Daniels, Executive Director, Sport, Culture & Major Events with Tourism Calgary. “We’re thrilled to have been selected as the host city for this cultural event as it will showcase many of Calgary’s best assets while contributing to our long-standing local creative communities”
